Apparently the Rubber on Tape Measures Is Actually an Eraser

If you've ever used a tape measure and wondered what the rubber on one end was for, well, you're not alone. It just seemed like an innocuous addition, right? Just something that was there for no reason at all. Well, like many things we learn when we're older in life, it has a purpose. If you're not sure what that purpose is, things are about to get a little clearer for you. Just don't feel "old" or like you're "out of touch" because you didn't know, because we certainly didn't. These life hacks are getting out of hand!

Instagrammer @buildridefilmz took to the platform to show off something his dad has been doing that blew his mind. He had made some pencil marks on wood on a recent project, and needed an eraser to get them clean, right? So he just needed to use a pencil eraser. Nothing difficult about that.

But wait. The prodigal son discovered that there was a hidden use for the rubber beneath the tape measure in most models: it's an eraser! No, it's not just there to stabilize things, and it isn't there for looks. You can use it to erase all of the pencil marks on your projects that you've had to make notes on.

This probably takes many of us by surprise, and for good reason -- who knew it had a hidden use like this? So the next time you're working on a project that needs some pencil markings so you can measure things, know that you've got your handy eraser by your side when it's time to remove them! Who would have thought? Definitely not us.
