There's a scene in the latest season of The Crown, when Prince Charles comes to visit Princess Diana at Kensington Palace after their divorce is finalized. He's there to rehash their relationship one more time. It's almost certainly a fictionalized conversation, but one very specific detail rings true. "Why doesn't one just eat scrambled eggs all the time?" Prince Charles asks, as he wolfs down a plate in the Palace kitchen.

Crown creator Peter Morgan is no doubt referencing the rumor that the new British monarch is quite the fan of eggs.

Previously, actor Josh O'Connor, who played Prince Charles in seasons three and four of The Crown, shared the speculation that Charles has a real love for eggs, and eats them with every meal.

"Rumor has it, he doesn't eat lunch and whenever he eats, he'll always have a boiled egg. It doesn't matter what it is. So I'd kind of like to ask. I want to know the truth of that," he told T&C. "I wouldn't ask him anything about Diana. I wouldn't ask him anything about Camilla. I just want to know about the boiled egg."

Only fueling the rumor mill, several years ago Clarence House shared one of then-Prince Charles's favorite breakfast recipes: Cheesy Baked Eggs with spinach and tomato:

While Charles has comment publicly on his affinity for eggs, he has weighed in on one of the more ludicrous pieces of breakfast-themed gossip. In 2012 he confirmed that he is not served seven boiled eggs each day only to eat the one that looks most fitting. On the FAQ page of his website, the then-Prince of Wales noted that he has never made such a request "at breakfast or any other time."
