  • The Game of Thrones cast filmed an alternate ending for the series, according to actor Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane).

  • The actor didn't share details but revealed that it was done "mostly for fun."

By now, it's no secret that not everyone was pleased by the Game of Thrones series finale. (I, for one, am still trying to make sense of King Bran.) But would public opinion be different if the show had aired its alternate ending instead?

Apparently, the cast and crew filmed a different set of final scenes when wrapping up Season 8, according to actor Kristofer Hivju, who starred as goofy-yet-terrifying Tormund Giantsbane.

"Well, we shot an alternative ending," he told Metro.co.uk. "That was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that."

Hivju couldn't share which actors were involved in the alternate finale, which could've revealed whether a different set of characters were meant to survive or meet their demise in the secret version.

"I won’t tell you!" the actor insisted to Metro. "But it was fun."

It was previously reported that the show was filming multiple endings to confuse paparazzi and fans, and therefore safeguard spoilers.

Hivju spoke to the British outlet last night while attending "Game Of Thrones: A Celebration" hosted by BFI Southbank in London. Although the fête wasn't attended by the whole GoT cast, he did reunite with costars Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark) and Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) at the festivities.

Game of Thrones concluded in May 2019, but not all is over from George R. R. Martin's fantasy universe. HBO is officially working on a House Targaryen prequel show called House of the Dragon.
