Apparently Chrissy Metz Wasn't The First-Choice To Sing Her Oscar-Nominated Song
This Is Us star Chrissy Metz is performing the Oscar-nominated song "I'm Standing With You" during the 2020 awards show this year.
The song, written by Diane Warren, was featured in Chrissy Metz's film Breakthrough, the real-life story of a mother who turned to her Christian faith after her son fell through a frozen lake.
But apparently the Warren-Chrissy collaboration almost didn't come through. The songwriter gave a pre-show interview to E! News in which she revealed she initially didn't want Chrissy to perform the song, according to People. (FYI, this is Warren's 11th Oscar nomination—and she's never won!)
Chrissy's been candid about struggling with her weight over the years:
“I was blown away. I didn’t want her originally for the song, I wanted a more established artist, I didn’t realize she could sing,” Warren said. “She went in my studio, I said, ‘Alright, I’ll come back in a few hours.’ And when I heard her on the song, [I was just] blown away. Just totally blown away. She was amazing.”
Needless to say Chrissy is pretty pumped about her performance. "“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be singIng a Diane Warren song at the Oscars,” the star previously told PEOPLE. “This is so epic!”
