Here's Why Debra Messing Just Told Susan Sarandon to "STFU" on Twitter

Get Ryan Murphy on the phone: Two of Hollywood’s most beloved redheads, Debra Messing and Susan Sarandon, are feuding on Twitter (and it’s not the first time).

The beef in question has nothing to do with the color of their hair or a potential guest spot on Will & Grace, rather, the liberal actresses are clashing over comments Sarandon gave during an interview with Variety about Donald Trump.

Messing took aim on Wednesday morning when Variety posted a clip of Sarandon looking for the silver lining in Trump’s presidency. The publication’s caption read, “Donald Trump has, if anything, inspired more women and people of color to run for office, says Susan Sarandon.”

Debra hopped on the offensive, re-tweeting the video with some caps lock fighting words: “STFU SUSAN,” she began. “Oh yes, PLEASE let’s give Trump CREDIT. I mean how else are you able to walk out on the street. Convince yourself that that this CATASTROPHE of a President who you said was better that HRC IS NOT ripping children away from parents seeking asylum, holding children INDEFINITELY in internment camps with their new policy, DESTROYING all attempts to protect our environment (yes the water you propertied [sic] to care about), endangered animals, taking away women’s ACCESS to health care and legal abortion, trying to block POC from Voting with extreme Judges who will support jerrymandering [sic] efforts, not to mention destroying ALL good will and allied relationships across the Globe."

And there's more: "Oh, and lest you forget Syria, Crimea, and putting PRO-RUSSIA agenda BEFORE the United States best interests ... but you don’t want to look at THAT part of the equation.

"Only a self righteous, narcissist would continue to spout off and not - in the face of Americans’ pain and agony -be contrite and apologize for your part in this catastrophe," she continued. "But, you do you Susan.”

She followed up her diatribe by posting the clip once more, this time with the caption, “Yeah. That’s right. She had the GALL.”

Of course, the outspoken Oscar winner wasn’t about to take Messing’s explosive attack issuing her own rebuttal. Sarandon responded, writing, “Debs, before you get yourself all self-righteous try clicking on the video and listening to what I actually say, not @Variety's clickbait headline, which btw has no quotation marks. That’s a clue...”

Shots fired … against Variety (?).

To be fair, Sarandon’s quotes aren’t quite as complimentary as they seem. In the interview, the Thelma & Louise star was asked to give the President’s tenure in office a grade, to which she responded, “Oh my God, I would tell him to start all over again. I don’t think we can grade.”

She then commended not Trump, but the revolution his leadership has inspired, explaining, “I think what he’s done that is the most significant is that unintentionally he has energized [opposition] ... In all fairness to Trump, this stuff was all laid in place over the last 12 years. This didn’t just suddenly happen."

She goes on, "But he is so bumbling — he’s like a character out of a cartoon — that you can’t not be aware of what’s going on now. Bernie Sanders proved that you could run without taking dark money, without taking PAC money, and so you’re seeing an enormous amount of people that are using that and are running and winning."

"Also, the kids are on fire," she added, praising the younger generations and their activism. "I’ve never heard millennials or kids in high school saying ‘I can’t wait to vote’ — that’s huge! ... I say take me down, take over, get rid of all these old people and get the young blood in there. They’re going to make the difference, and I’m very hopeful because of them.”

In case you (reasonably) blocked out all things 2016, Susan and Debra’s political friction began ahead of the election when Sarandon (a vocal Bernie Sanders supporter) said she thought a Trump presidency may be preferable to a Clinton presidency due to the revolution the former would inspire. Ultimately, she did voice her opinion that dems should vote for the party’s eventual nominee, regardless of whether Clinton or Sanders made the cut.

Things heated up in the weeks following the election as well, as Messing took issue with Sarandon’s tweet asking liberals to “reach out in dialogue to those who voted 4 [Trump].”

After nearly two years of cease-fire, the cold war is officially hot again.

Ladies, would you be open to playing yourselves in Feud: Debra vs. Susan?
