While the country has been divided over Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the United States Supreme Court and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony against him, the machine that is American politics continues to chug along.

Today Kellyanne Conway, a top advisor to President Trump, made an appearance on on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper to share the White House's stance on the nomination and defend Kavanaugh.

Her interview took an unexpected turn, however, when Conway said that she herself has also been a victim of sexual assault. She said to Tapper, “I feel very empathetic, frankly, for victims of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and rape. I’m a victim of sexual assault." She then brought it right back to politics, saying, "I don’t expect Judge Kavanaugh or Jake Tapper or Jeff Flake or anybody to be held responsible for that. You have to be responsible for your own conduct.”

Conway didn't give any further details about her experience, however it is worth noting that she, a woman who has been sexually assaulted, continues to publicly and vehemently defend men who have been accused of sexual assault by multiple women.

This story will be updated as further details emerge.
