I'm So Here for Jennifer Lawrence's Curly Hair

With curly hair, you get used to having only a few hairstyle options at your leisure. The choice usually comes down to layers, or slightly different layers. Click through any curly hair inspo gallery, and odds are you'll see the same handful of celebrities who have worn their hair curly over the past 10 years. Search "curly haired celebrities" and Google will serve up Salma Hayek, Vanessa Hudgens, Kate Hudson, Mischa Barton, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The bar, my friends, is too low. So when Jennifer Lawrence walked the red carpet Monday night in curls by choice, I'm honestly surprised the earth didn't shake.

Celebrities aren't the only source of hairstyle inspiration, but let's be honest, they're a big one. And as a Jewish-American woman with 3a/b curls, I don't often see a celebrity with hair resembling anything like what I wake up with. Even browsing curly hair inspiration boards and accounts brings in a fair amount of styled, curling-ironed hair and "beach waves," which just isn't real—but when you see that nonstop, it's easy to feel like doing the same is your only option.

It's hard to say whether Lawrence's curls are natural—she did once reveal that she had curly hair as a kid—but it's also beside the point. With a little frizz, her soft layers, and a huge dose of volume, Lawrence's curls' coming out is like spotting an alternate universe, where curls and texture aren't hammered out of actresses as soon as they have a hairstylist on call. Maybe it's selfish, but I just want more hair ideas.
