This year marks all kinds of new things for Christina El Moussa: new season of Flip Or Flop, new boyfriend (whaddup, Ant Anstead?!), and now, a new look to go with it. The HGTV star recently chopped off her long, beachy waves into an effortlessly chic - and okay, still beachy - lob.

Christina captioned it simply: "Changing it up," though her hairstylist - and best friend - Shannon Houston, elaborated further. "It's gonna be summer, and with the kids and the heat, it was just time for some lower maintenance," she said, adding that the extensions were getting to be too much work.

Within hours, hundreds of comments started pouring in. "I am loving the shorter length," one follower said.

"Wish I had someone like you to do my hair!!!" another commented.

Well, you may not have Christina on speed dial, but that doesn't mean all hope is lost. Shannon explained exactly how to get her look.

"Make sure you tell your stylist you only want the front pieces longer, not totally A-line," said Shannon, who chopped Christina's locks at Latitude 33 Hair Artistry in Anaheim Hills, CA. "This is what will make the difference between it looking edgy vs. a 'mom cut.'"

Know That Christina's Volume Comes With A Little Boost.

Hair extensions aren't just for mermaid waves; they're crucial for giving short hair a boost, too. Christina and Shannon will be totally real with you - the Flip Or Flop star's hair gets its fullness from a few extensions on the sides.

Shannon suggests using the tape-in kind. "It's easy and affordable, and changes everything," she explained.

There Are Three Products She Swears By For Nailing This Look.

Shannon, who's also the founder of Pink Dust Cosmetics (AKA Christina's go-to makeup line), swears by using a 1-inch curling iron to get those loose, effortlessly chic waves. And lots and lots of beach spray and texture spray.

"When styling short hair, the more product, the better," she said.

The key is to wrap your hair in both directions when curling it - it's the difference between sexy, semi-undone waves and Little Bo Peep ringlets - and using the two sprays to give it a tousled look that lasts.

Shannon swears by Oribe Beach Spray and Texture Spray, in case you're curious. (And admit it, you are.)

Of course, just because Christina changed her look doesn't mean it's permanent. "No promise how long it will last," Shannon added. I'll just have to hope she posts a tutorial on Instagram before they switch things up again.
