'Gossip Girl' Star Zuzanna Szadkowski Thought Dorota Was Gossip Girl, Too

"I also kind of hoped it would be, and then I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t."

There are two kinds of people in this world: 1, Ed Westwick, who still doesn't know who Gossip Girl's titular character was even though he was literally there; and 2, people who are still reeling from the surprise reveal. (Even the show's producers thought GG was someone different at first!) If you're of the latter camp — no shade, Ed — then chances are also good that, at one point or another, you thought Blair's trusted maid Dorota was behind the texts, emails, and blog posts that were central to the show.

As it turns out, so did the actor who played Dorota. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Zuzanna Szadkowski admitted that she was gunning for her character to be the mastermind behind the Upper East Side's most notorious website. "I totally [thought Dorota was Gossip Girl]," she explained. "I also kind of hoped it would be, and then I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t."

She points out that she was most definitely not alone, "It was funny because in the final episode there’s a scene where Mayor Bloomberg says, 'I thought it was Dorota,'" Zuzanna says about one of the show's biggest cameo moments. "That was my favorite thing, that the mayor actually mentioned my name."

So what was it like to learn that Gossip Girl was actually Lonely Boy? The actress says the moment was shrouded in secrecy. "Around the third season somebody started leaking our scripts to the media, so they started making these very redacted scripts and sometimes you would show up and do a scene and you didn’t know what the scene was about because they couldn’t trust putting it out there," she explained about the showrunners's decision to keep a lot of people in the dark about the show's plots. "A lot of it was fly by the seat of your pants and we were always excited to see what would happen next. The final-season reveal of Gossip Girl was crazy because we didn’t know until we were shooting the scene. They were just handing us pages with big, blacked-out blocks and being like, 'Well, we’ll get to it!' I feel like nobody knew who Gossip Girl was going to be till the day we did it."

And while Zuzanna says she'd be down for a Gossip Girl reunion, it seems that Dorota and Blair have kept in touch this whole time. "I’m very close with Leighton because she and I spent a lot of time working together and we developed a real friendship," the actress explained about her costar. "She’s one of the nicest things for me about having even worked on the show; my friendship with her is really special to me."
