This 'Gold Rush' Star Is Launching the Most Intense Competition Series
Gold Rush's Todd Hoffman is launching a reality show about amateur miners.
The series has the working title Greenhorn Gold.
It will air on Discovery, but a premiere date has not been set.
Discovery viewers who are huge fans of the mining industry are now getting a brand-new series to obsess over.
Todd Hoffman, the star and creator of Gold Rush, is launching a reality competition show called Greenhorn Gold, reports Deadline. The reality series will follow a group of amateur female and male gold miners in a gold-digging competition. The final six contestants will take home prize money in (you guessed it) raw gold.
Gold Rush, which follows Hoffman and his mining crew as they hunt for gold in Alaska, first premiered in 2010, and eight seasons later, it's still a huge success. Season 9 premieres October 12, but Hoffman and his team will not be back.
According to Oregon Live, Hoffman said he "learned a ton about how to do things in television" since being on Gold Rush and wanted to focus on his production company, ZUM Media.
For Greenhorn Gold, Hoffman has enlisted the help of Thom Beers and Jeff Conroy, the executive producers of, Bering Sea Gold, another reality series centered around mining that airs on Discovery.
“Introducing the world to the prospecting business on Gold Rush was incredible; it’s thrilling to give others the chance to replicate that success,” Hoffman told Deadline. “Thom and Jeff have an unparalleled reputation for telling the stories of America’s unseen heroes, and I couldn’t be more excited to tell these stories with BoBCat.”
“We’re excited to partner with Todd on Greenhorn Gold,” Conroy added. “We were both fortunate to have hit prospecting shows. Gold Rush and Bering Sea Gold anchored Discovery’s ratings, winning Friday night for years. Now it’s great to be able to partner with him.”
A premiere date for Greenhorn Gold has not been announced.
