'The Flash' Star Was Body-Shamed for Looking Too Thin in His Costume

From Men's Health

The Flash star Grant Gustin has hit back at fans for body-shaming and "double standards" after a leaked photo of his new season five costume emerged on the internet.

An off-guard photo was shared online showing Gustin in a revamped Flash suit, but some insisted that the actor looked too thin in the new outfit.

In a candid post on Instagram, the actor called the leak "bullshit" before stating that body-shaming anyone, in any way, is not OK. (We agree.)

"That's what pisses me off," he wrote. "I've had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents I was too thin. I've had my own journey of accepting it. But there's a double standard where it's ok to talk shit about a dude's body.

"I do my best to stay in shape and add as much size as I can through out these seasons," Gustin wrote, before opening up about his experience with stress and the impact it has on his body.

"I'm naturally thin, and my appetite is greatly affected by stress," he continued. "Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season. Thus, gaining weight is a challenge for me. I didn't cast a slim actor as The Flash.

"I went to an audition for a role I never dreamed I'd actually book. But, here I am 5 seasons later."

Grant went on to tell fans that he was "happy" with his body and loved the new suit, but that his goal was to make other people with a similar body type to "feel the same way."

"Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday," he wrote.

Fortunately for Grant Gustin and fans of The Flash who don't care about weight, the DC TV series is staying put for a while yet, as confirmed by The CW's Mark Pedowitz. Speaking at TCA 2018, Pedowitz confirmed that there are "no plans yet to end" Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow or Supergirl, plus the unconnected Black Lightning.
