While we're so looking forward to it, New Year's Eve does bring around a host of sartorial dilemmas; if you're not abroad, it's likely you'll be braving the bitter cold at some point, and if you'll be out into the wee hours, comfy heels are a must.

Whether you'll be ballroom dancing, watching the fireworks or at a dinner party come the stroke of midnight, the Telegraph fashion team have lined up their favourite fantasy looks to suit every NYE eventuality...

Peplums are ideal after over-indulging

Prada's peplum-hemmed LRD (little red dress) is the stuff that festive dreams are made of. I'd wear it with a leopard print coat, red lipstick, and the hope that the frill would balance out any festive weight gain. CGE

'Tis the season for sequins

New Year's Eve is the one night of the year that I'll go all-out with the sequins. Not just a top, or a subtle sparkly accessory, but the head-to-toe, full-on stuff. As we always hold the party at ours, Halpern's flares and bustier would be my fantasy hostess outfit, ideally worn with some velvet Miu Miu sandals that would have been ruined if I'd had to step outside. Attico's byzantium purple slip dress featuring unobtrusive-but-festive leafy embellishments is exactly what I want to be wearing this New Year's Eve - with flats, because I plan on hitting the dance floor in a big way, and dressed down with a biker jacket. OBS

Not all New Year's Eves are about conventional party dress. I can't think of a chicer- or cosier- way to see in the New Year than head-to-toe camel by Max Mara. KT

Pick something that is equal parts chic and cosy

In my daydreams I'm spending New Year's Eve sipping Poire Victoires at the Ritz Paris, and I can't imagine a better way to glitter past midnight than in this Emilia Wickstead skirt and knit. In reality it might be a bit much for prosecco and Cards Against Humanity with the neighbours, but hey, a girl can dream. EC

Ballroom dancing is a great excuse to invest in a fabulous gown

Come new year I'll be reeling my way around a ball room in Scotland, and what else better to do it in than Christopher Bailey's resurrected tartan and soft flowy dresses. A single statement earring will prevent me looking too traditional - hopefully I won't take out anyone's eye with it. HE

I like the idea of getting dressed up for New Year's Eve, but don't want to buy a one hit wonder. That's why Galvan's jumpsuits are just the best. Not only are they beautifully cut, but their simplicity means they can be reinvented at the touch of a red lip, or a jazzy shoe. This New Year I'll be taking my lead from Gillian Anderson and teaming mine with a knockout pair of earrings and killer heels. SW
