  • Rapper A$AP Rocky was formally charged with assault for incident in Sweden.

  • He was detained after a street fight that was recorded on camera.

Toward the end of June, A$AP Rocky was allegedly involved in a fight that broke out on the streets of Stockholm, Sweden. The rapper's been detained since July 3, and the Swedish Prosecution Authority just formally charged him with assault.

If this whole case has made you extremely confused, here's a quick refresher: On July 2, A$AP posted two videos of the altercation on his Instagram page. In the first video, it looks as if two unnamed men were following the rapper, his friends, and his bodyguard. A$AP claimed the men were drug addicts and were slapping girls' butts as they walked by. In the second, A$AP said one of the men threw a pair of headphones at his security guard and continued to follow him, despite A$AP and his friends telling the men to leave them alone.

In other videos posted online, you can see a group of men fighting one of the men who were following them. It's hard to see anyone's faces in this video, BTW, so it's not 100 percent certain who is involved.

After this all went down, A$AP reportedly went to the police station voluntarily to discuss the incident and was immediately arrested, according to TMZ. Another major red flag was that the American embassy reportedly wasn't notified, which isn't the norm. (The two unnamed men who allegedly provoked the incident were being investigated for suspected "molestation and assault," but all charges were dropped.)

Throughout this whole thing and his reported "inhumane" detainment in a "disease ridden" facility, A$AP, his lawyer, and his manager have all maintained that he's innocent. Even celebrities and politicians like Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump, Justin Bieber, and Tyler, the Creator have been involved and asking Sweden to free A$AP.

Despite everyone's best efforts at getting him out of jail, A$AP was formally charged with assault today and will remain in jail until he goes to trial next week because Sweden thinks he's a "flight risk." The hearing will reportedly take place over three days, and if convicted, he faces up to two years in jail or a fine based on his income.
