AOC Is Joining "RuPaul's Drag Race" as a Guest Judge

AOC will be a guest judge in season 12.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez knows a little something about winning a race, and soon AOC will be on the stage of one of the toughest competitions around: *RuPaul's Drag Race.

AOC and a roster of other high-caliber guest judges were announced on Thursday (February 13) with a tweet thread featuring videos from each and every one of them pledging their allegiance to the VH1 reality television series. Entering its 12th season, guest judges include Nicki Minaj, Whoopi Goldberg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chaka Khan, Robyn, Leslie Jones, Normani, Jeff Goldblum, Daisy Ridley, Thandie Newton, Olivia Munn, Rachel Bloom, Daniel Franzese, Jonathan Bennett, and Winnie Harlow. They'll be rubbing elbows with judging panel regulars Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews, and of course, RuPaul herself.

Practically every episode of RuPaul's Drag Race has a guest judge, usually an actor or musician who has ties to the LGBTQ community through their art or activism. Celebs such as Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and many more have stopped by to help with judging, along with watching the bottom two queens lip-sync for their life to one of their songs.

AOC isn't the first politician to be on the show as of late — Nancy Pelosi visited the queens of All Stars 3 back in 2018. But AOC has been a Drag Race fan for a while, tweeting her love in the past and even stopping by season 9 winner Sasha Velour's show in Washington D.C. Her cameo this season makes perfect sense considering the patriotic theme of the latest marketing campaign.

Plenty of fans were gooped about the Drag Race reveal. One person tweeted, "Fully gay gasped at the guest judges on Drag Race S12. ROBYN?! AOC?! NORMANI?! CHAKA KHAN?! Put these pictures on my gravestone." Another wrote, "I wasn't expecting a guest judge lineup to get me excited for Drag Race but it's f*cking stacked."
