Anything floral: First Friday theme this week is flowers; join for music, food, tours

Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce First Friday will start this week, along with the first Music at the Mural of the season, and followed by After Hours starting at 8 p.m.

First Friday, which starts at 5 p.m., began in 2018 and features themes. May Friday is all about flowers, said Heather Martin, event and marketing assistant for the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Let's celebrate springtime with the fragrance, color and beauty of anything floral,” says Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce on its website.

Businesses and activities

Some of the businesses that will be open or participate in First Friday this week include the Copper Irons and Scapes by Sarah Landscaping and Greenhouse.

Food vendors will sell flower-shaped cookies and edible landscaping items, which are organic gardening produce, Martin said. Food vendors, including Center Street Meat, Simply Sweet Treats, O's Little Red Shed, Bytchin' Kitchen, and Sweet and Salty, will be set up by the Schines Art Park.

“People can kind of take advantage of it throughout the day,” Martin said.

Providing the music this week will be Bound by Love, the husband and wife due of Chad and LorrieAnn Brown. While the band plas, guests will be able to enjoy a games.

After Hours will offer a self-guided walking tour to different locations in the city. The walk will go by the Great American Crossroads Mural at Millennium Park on the Square, the Liberty Remembers Mural at Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream and the speakeasy in the Crazy Fox Saloon basement, according to the chamber's website.

“We will just keep our fingers crossed that we will have beautiful weather like it is right now,” Martin said.

First Friday events June-August

In June, the event will be centered around a lake theme because as it gets warmer people seem to be more inclined to travel to the lakes in the area, Martin said.

July will be dedicated to celebrating community veterans and paying tribute to those who have sacrificed for the national freedoms, Martin said.

In August, First Friday will be dedicated to “heroes and sheroes,” as Martin put it, and those are the first responders and law enforcement.

First Friday was the brainchild of Sue Logsdon from UB Dazzled, Martin said.

“This started years ago just to bring more community involvement and get more people to stop in our town,” she said.
