The Legend of Zorro star Antonio Banderas is set to portray yet another storied figure — this time, one from the fashion world: Gianni Versace.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the actor has been cast as the designer, who was murdered in 1997, in a forthcoming biopic. It’s actually very fitting that the Spanish star has won the role. Last August, he revealed on Instagram that he was taking classes at Central Saint Martins, a supremely prestigious art school in London. He has also teamed up with menswear brand Selected on a suiting collection due out in the fall.

Despite the casting choice, the house of Versace has said it has nothing to do with the film, and it “should only be seen as a work of fiction.” So if you were wondering if Banderas and director Bille August had the blessing of the family, there’s your answer.

At any rate, we’ll be patiently waiting to see what Banderas’s interpretation of the late Versace looks like. The actor has had some amount of practice in the design field, so it seems he’s at least got that aspect covered.
