Antisemitism Is Everywhere — Help Kids Understand Each Other With Great Books Featuring Jewish Representation

Being a Jewish mother of Jewish children, the increase in antisemitism in the media and in everyday life has been exhausting and depressing. From Kanye to LA bridges, it's extreme — and it's unacceptable. One of the best ways to fight antisemitism is by teaching children that Jews are just like everyone else and deserving of respect. Reading kids' books with Jewish representation shows children just how normal we are. If kids see Jews portrayed in a normal, but positive light, it sets a foundation of acceptance that will be harder to shake by the likes of jerks with a megaphone who choose to spew hate instead of just being quiet.

And for Jewish kids, seeing themselves represented in books is such an edifying way to reinforce the joy of being Jewish. I know how hard that can be. We want our kids to be proudly Jewish, but it can be difficult when it can also be scary to be Jewish.
