Antique lovers can hardly contain their excitement!
Antiques Roadshow is back on our screens as it embarks on its 28th season. The new installment kicked off to a fun start on January 1, 2024, with new episodes scheduled to air weekly.
What Is Antiques Roadshow and How Does It Work?
As has been the case for nearly 30 years, Antiques Roadshow sets out to find America’s hidden treasures. They do so by admitting antique lovers via lottery. Once allowed entrance, each person meets with an appraiser to determine if their item is treasure or trash. While thousands of people are admitted to each show, only a few dozen make their way on the air.
In an interview with WHYY, Antiques Roadshow veteran appraiser and Philadelphia Print Shop co-owner Dr. Donald H. Cresswell revealed that “We’re busy from seven (o’clock) in the morning and we don’t get out of there until eight or so in the evening… I have a choice. I can make an appraisal right there, but if I look at it and decide this is interesting and the people are presentable, I can ask them if they want to be on TV. I don’t tell them anything else.” If they agree and if the production crew gives the green light, they’re sent to a professional makeup artist before being filmed, after which point the appraisers reveal the reality of their find.
