Anthony Mackie is sharing his candid impressions on working with Marvel, and according to the actor, there’s not much creative freedom.

During a Radio Times interview in which he compares his MCU work with his latest project, action-comedy series Twisted Metal, Mackie reveals.

"I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it's such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there's only so much you can do. There's only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content.”

Mackie has been involved with the MCU for ten years. He debuted in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as flying hero The Falcon, and stars as Captain America himself in upcoming 2025 blockbuster Captain America: Brave New World.

He doesn’t have much say in what’s happening in Marvel, however, and for Mackie, “that's the hard thing about the Marvel universe. It's like, you can't really go outside of the lines of those comic books."

He puts an optimistic spin on what could potentially lead to creative frustration, saying he relishes the challenge. “When we introduced the Falcon, and the growth of the Falcon to Captain America,” Mackie continues, “all of that had to coincide with what Stan had already gave us. So it's an interesting juggle to be a part of that world. And this was more like, 'let's just have fun and figure it out as we go.'"

As well as Mackie’s next Marvel movie, we’ve also had his appearance in Twisted Metal season 2 teased by Sweet Tooth star Samoa Joe.
