Anthony Edwards’ Sold-Out Adidas Sneaker Returns in a New Colorway Next Week

Anthony Edwards’ first signature sneaker has been an instant hit, selling out in its debut “With Love” colorway. For those that missed out on the drop in December, Adidas has now confirmed the AE 1 will return in a new colorway before the end of the month.

The AE 1 “Arctic Fusion” features the same two-tone color-blocking as its predecessor and matches the uniforms of Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves. The sneaker’s namesake blue hue is used for the TPU wing and sole unit, while the rest of the upper once again appears in black. White is then used for the tongue’s “AE” logo and the Adidas mark on the heel, completing a simple color scheme that lets the shoe’s tech stand out.
Cut into a honeycomb pattern for breathability, the AE 1’s TPU wing functions as a harness and actually wraps beneath the foot to provide containment and security for Edwards, who Adidas said tested off the charts with the forces he generates while playing. A carbon fiber heel panel also helps with this mission, while the rest of the upper uses a Primegreen knit for a sock-like fit. Down low, a full-length Jet Boost midsole hosts smaller “energy capsules” for a responsive and supportive ride.
In Footwear News‘ feature on the AE 1, executives from Adidas confirmed that the sneaker is part of a new direction for Adidas Basketball. The hope was to break out of the “sea of sameness” that’s defined basketball sneakers in recent memory, and the reception for the AE 1 has already shown it to be a successful refresh.
The Adidas AE 1 “Arctic Fusion” will release Jan. 25 through the websites for Adidas and Footlocker. Pricing is set at $120.
