On Friday morning, CNN reported that Parts Unknown host Anthony Bourdain - who was hailed in the culinary community for his sense of adventure and renegade style -was found dead in a French hotel of an apparent suicide. Bourdain had a daughter named Ariane with his second wife Ottavia Busia. She was born in 2007, and has been largely shielded from the public eye. The chef had occasionally spoken about Ariane to the press, including a 2016 interview withThe Takeout, in which he talked about her sophisticated food preferences.

"You know, I put a tiny, tiny little bit of nutmeg in my macaroni and cheese and she did not enjoy that. She called me on it right away. She’s got a very acute palate and she catches me if I over-salt something. If there’s any variance between a dish that she liked last time and how it’s done today she’ll be like, ‘Nah, not eating it, there’s too much pepper in that.'"

In the same interview, Bourdain chatted about why he wanted to have a child at age 50:

"I guess my whole life, as much as I might have wanted a child for the reason that everybody wants one, I always recognized that at no point until I was 50 was I old enough or up to the job. I thought, you know what, I not only really want a child, but at this point, finally in my life, I think I’m up to the job and I’m the type of person who could do the job well and I’m financially prepared to look after a child."

Both Bourdain and Busia have shied away from showing Ariane's face. "I never show her face on social media. She doesn’t need that shit in her life," he explained.

His Girlfriend, Asia Argento

At the time of his death, Bourdain was in a relationship with Italian actress Asia Argento, who he met while filming Parts Unknown. Bourdain wasn't hesitant about praising Argento and the influence she had on his work, telling Peoplelast year, "[Asia] has spent a lifetime in film since she was 9 years old. She comes from generations of filmmakers on both sides of the family. She’s a really accomplished director and writer along with being a longtime actress and a real sponge for culture, music, literature. So she’s enormously helpful and inspiring."

Bourdain was a vocal supporter of Argento, who bravely came forward with her story about Harvey Weinstein during the #MeToo movement.

His Ex-Wives, Nancy Putkoski and Ottavia Busia

Bourdain married his high school girlfriend Nancy Putkoski in 1985, and they divorced in 2005 after two decades together. A few years later, he married Ariane's mother Ottavia Busia - and they parted ways in 2016. "My wife and I live, have lived, very separate lives for years," Bourdain told People. "There’s no drama here. We get along really, really well and it’s not a big lifestyle change happening here."

Busia revealed that she and Bourdain met while she was working in a restaurant: "When I met him I was actually the one working in a restaurant and he was already traveling the world. As a General Manager working 14-16 hours a day I definitely had no time to have any kind of relationship, so dating a man who was never there seemed kind of perfect. We didn’t see each other much for the first few months but we made it work. Most of our dates would take place in dive bars in the middle of the night."
