Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown Is No Longer Leaving Netflix

In the wake of chef Anthony Bourdain's death on Friday, Netflix has announced that his travel and food show, Parts Unknown, will no longer be removed from the site as scheduled on June 16. Instead, the first eight seasons of the popular CNN show will remain on the platform for the foreseeable future.

It's a small but relatively unprecedented gesture from the streaming giant, which adds and drops shows on a daily basis. The extension of the deal for Parts Unknown may also be rooted in the bottom line, and of course the show will remain available elsewhere, but, simply put, more people will now have access to the respected work of a multitalented icon.

While 11 seasons of the show have aired thus far, only those released before 2017 are available on Netflix. A highlight from the first eight seasons is Season 2, Episode 5: 'Sicily', in which Bourdain becomes frustrated with a guide who is providing an inauthentic experience, and brings viewers behind-the-scenes more than usual on his process of finding and experiencing culture. Elsewhere, Season 5, Episode 2, 'Miami' is a powerful exploration of not only an oft-dismissed city, but its people. Or you can just start from the beginning. You've got time.
