Antarctic Researcher Wakes Up To Huge Snow Drifts and Tons of Penguin Visitors

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust manages Port Lockroy along with five further former British Bases on the Antarctic Peninsula including a penguin colony.

One of their team members shared the following amazing video of what they work up to one morning, and it includes more than just giant snowdrifts.

The incredible video, shared by the TikTok account for @ukantarcticheritagetrust has TikTok viewers in awe. @Tiffani comments, "The willpower it would take for me not to go out there and just lay with the penguins." @Nicoles adds, "I can't wrap my head around how arctic animals have enough blubber and junk to keep them warm in these insane elements." @Gin responds, "Not me over here willing to risk hypothermia to make them all my friends. One of the most hilarious comments comes from @Sage who says, "If you're cold, they're cold, bring them inside." LOL! The researcher did say in the video that they invited the penguins in but that they rejected the invitation today.

The website for the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust explains, "During the first all-island survey on 12th January 2023, we counted all the nests on the island, as well as all the eggs. In total, we had 529 nests across the island, which means we should have at least 1058 penguins." How incredible is that? This is a bucket list destination for sure!
