Benoit Blanc is back in a big way.

Benoit Blanc is back with a new case to crack! Daniel Craig is returning as the gentleman sleuth with the Southern drawl in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the follow-up to Rian Johnson's 2019 whodunit movie, Knives Out.

The first film of the franchise, which went on to score an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay as well as three Golden Globe nominations, followed Benoit as he investigated the mysterious death of the dysfunctional Thrombey family's patriarch.

Is there a trailer for Knives Out 2?

The official trailer debuted on Nov. 7. "I've invited you all to my island cause tonight, a murder will be committed. My murder," Edward Norton's character says in the trailer. "Across the island, I've hidden clues. You will have to closely observe each other. If anyone can name the killer, that person wins our game."

After a real murder takes place, Benoit Blanc notes for "at least one person, this is not a game." He says, “The killer is in plain sight."

In a previously released teaser trailer, Craig's character warned that "everyone is in danger.”

An official first look was shared on Aug. 22 showing Benoit Blanc seemingly interrogating suspects. "Nothing brings friends together like a killer party," Netflix tweeted.

Has production on Knives Out 2 started?

Filming commenced in June 2021. Johnson tweeted a photo from the set at the time writing, "Aaaaaaaand WE’RE OFF! Day one of filming on the next Benoit Blanc mystery. Thanks to all the lovely patient people here in Greece for letting us do all this murdering on their peaceful shores."

The director tweeted months later in September that they had "just wrapped production on the next Benoit Blanc mystery."

According to IMDb, production on Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery wrapped on July 30, 2022.

What will happen in Knives Out 2?

In the film, tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) "invites some of his nearest and dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island," but "it soon becomes clear that all is not perfect in paradise"...and someone winds up dead, per Tudum.

Johnson told Tudum that "Blanc gets an invitation to come to this murder mystery on this island."

According to the movie's official logline, "Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects."

Johnson revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in early 2020 that he was working on a sequel that centered around Benoit investigating a new case. After the second movie was greenlit in 2020, the director told Jess Cagle on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, "In my mind, I don't even think of it in terms of like a sequel."

The filmmaker added, "Ever since we started working on this I was like, look, if we can keep this going, the same way Agatha Christie wrote a bunch of Poirot novels. I mean, do that with Blanc and keep making more mysteries. Whole new cast, whole new location, whole new mystery. It's just another Benoit Blanc mystery and it seems like there's so many different things you could do with it, you know? It seems like it'd be really fun."

Sadly, it seems Knives Out 2 might not deliver another viral sweater like Evans' cable knit one from the first film that had the Internet buzzing. “I don’t know!” Johnson laughed when asked by Entertainment Weekly in 2020 if more "excellent sweaters" could be expected in the sequel. “I think maybe the answer is to go someplace warm. We’ll see. I don’t think we can top Chris Evans in the cable-knit. You don’t try and top that."

Thankfully, Fandom shared a poster imagining the new cast and Craig in Evans' infamous sweater.

While Knives Out 2 might not have a buzzy sweater, Craig told Empire in 2021 about the sequel, "Dare I say it’s better? We'll see. I don't want to tempt fate. It's different, and that's the amazing thing. It's still a Benoit Blanc mystery, but it's very different. I'm very excited about it."

Will there be a third Knives Out?

Benoit Blanc will return for a third movie. When Netflix purchased the rights to the two follow-up films, The Hollywood Reporter reported that one of the contingencies was that "Craig must star in the sequels."
