Announcers Gasp As Skier Makes Seemingly Impossible Recovery

Every skier has had a moment (or a hundred) where they narrowly avoid disaster by a fortunate feat of athleticism. It seems to come with the territory of sliding incredibly fast on snow.

The video below, which was an immediate internet hit when it occurred in 2021, shows French skier Maxence Muzaton making easily one of the best recoveries/saves in alpine ski racing history.

Watch and listen as the French announcers react in real-time:

Caption translated from French to English: "As Benoit Paire and @julienlizeroux put it so well: "the cat! » Not only for hopefully falling back on my skis, but especially for the final diagnostics much better than expected. External lateral ligament sprain and small bony bruise in the left knee. Right bone bruise and sprained elbow.

Thank you @csplagne for letting us practice both alpine and freestyle in our younger years. It sure helped me stand on my feet! 😉"

In case you were wondering, Muzaton was racing in the 2021 FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.

According to the caption above, Muzaton did suffer some minor injuries in this incident, but the alternative would have surely been much more severe.

Good thing he had that freestyle training in his younger years. Henrik Harlaut is probably jealous of how steezy that nose butter was. I'd like to see him try to front press a pair of downhill sticks going 50+ mph.

Let's watch it one more time just for good measure. Check out the CBC broadcast version below:
