When An Anniversary Celebration Fuels A Foray Into The Wine Business

Vahali Vineyards is a small family vineyard and winery operation based in Paso Robles, California. What started off as an anniversary trip to wine country, Founders Mokshinder and Renu first visited Paso Robles to celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary in 2008. Centrally located, Paso was about the halfway point between family members living between Northern and Southern California. This inspired Mok & Renu to purchase a small plot and plant their first vineyard off Highway 46 East.

"Our oldest ancestor on record - Diwan Karan Mal - was responsible for laying out the gardens at the Taj Mahal. By 1909, our grandparents supported close to 14,000 acres of farms, forests and the communities who lived on them in the state of Vahali, located in the Jhelum District of Punjab, the grain basket of South Asia. A century later, and thousands of miles away, we have found our way back to nurturing the land in our new home."

In 2015 they expanded to Jauhar Vineyard, planting 17 acres of Petite Sirah. Carrying their family name, Jauhar is the flagship estate. Another expansion opportunity presented itself in 2017, when they acquired the Jhelum Estate (formerly known as Herder) which expanded their total vineyard holding to 44 acres. Their Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon are coveted by local wineries, and the acquisition gave them many additional grape varieties to play with, as well as opening their eyes to the potential of making estate wines. Their notable winery partners include: Opolo Wines, Zenaida Cellars, Lions Peak Vineyard, Calipaso Winery, and Daou Vineyards & Winery.
