Anniston vs. White Plains football game postponed to later date

Sep. 22—Anniston's homecoming matchup with White Plains has been postponed to a later date, the Calhoun County School District announced on Friday afternoon.

The district also said that they hope to reschedule the contest to a later date.

The announcement comes one day after Anniston High School's homecoming parade was postponed due to a shooting incident earlier in the week.

"Due to events beyond our control earlier this week, it is the decision of the Office of the Superintendent of the Calhoun County School System to forgo the football contest between White Plains High School and Anniston High School on Friday, September 22, 2023," the district posted on Facebook. "We look forward to the opportunity to discuss holding the contest at a later date during the 2023 season."

Anniston's (2-2, 1-1 Class 4A, Region 4) next contest will be against Piedmont on Thursday, Sept. 28. White Plains' (0-3, 0-1 Class 4A, Region 4) next contest will be against Hokes Bluff on Friday, Sept. 29.
