Anne Heche's Ex-Husband Pens Bittersweet Note on Shared Son's 21st Birthday

"He's good, Anne...I promise."

Homer Laffoon, the son of the late Anne Heche and Coley Laffoon, is celebrating his 21st birthday with his father.

Heche and Laffoon were married in 2001 and divorced in 2009, although she separated from him to begin her relationship with James Tupper, her son Atlas' father, in 2007.

Laffoon took to Instagram March 2, which is Homer's birthday, with a collection of photos of him and Homer throughout the years, including a sweet, smiley, cheek-to-cheek shot from Homer's childhood and several photos from their current road trip, featuring what looks like Homer's first visit to a bar.

Alongside the sentimental album, he wrote a bittersweet message, celebrating his son but also speaking directly to his ex-wife.

"21 years.goes fast. Before you know it the journey of a lifetime has become two lives. Intertwined, inseparable in the sense that what is in one is in the other. Homer is in me as much as I'm in him. It's baked in," he began the lengthy message, revealing that the pair are on a father-son vacation in San Francisco to celebrate the big day. "He's come through his challenges on his terms. Can't ask for much more. Has a promising new job, great friends, is a loving son and brother...He's doing great and it feels so good."

He went on to thank his current wife, Alexi Laffoon, who is at home with their three young kids and pregnant with their fourth together, for supporting them "with every fiber of her heart and body."

He then shared a heartbreaking note to Heche, writing, "Impossible not to close my eyes and think of @anneheche zooming around the cosmos, swinging by Northern California, smiling her knowing and still vulnerable smile as she races past. He's good Anne. Thank you for trusting him to me. It's going to keep being great. I promise."

He also thanked family friend Aurelia, who took Homer's childhood photos, as well as his followers for coming along for the ride. "We're all intertwined and I'm so glad."

"Happy birthday @homerheche sending you so much love on your 21st trip around the sun. I know good energy is surrounding you. ❤️," Aurelia wrote in response.

Alexi also commented, writing, "Oh man, this wrecked me. Love this fam with all I’ve got. Thank you Coley and Anne for this incredible human @homerheche ❤️🥲"

Heche died of injuries caused in a fiery car accident on August 5 of last year. Her official date of death was August 11—when she was declared brain dead—but she was kept alive on life support until the 14th, so she could become an organ donor.

Homer announced that his mother's posthumous memoir, Call Me Anne, would be released in 2023.
