Lynne Mishele is seeking at least $2 million in damages.
Heche died on Aug. 11, 2022—though she remained on life support through Aug. 14 in order to donate her organs—of "inhalation and thermal injuries" as a result of the disastrous crash on Aug. 5. Heche was not expected to survive after crashing her Mini Cooper into the Mar Vista, Calif. residence, though Mishele escaped serious injury despite losing just about everything as a result.
According to Entertainment Weekly, who obtained the court documents, Mishele is now asking for at least $2 million in damages, citing negligence, infliction of emotional distress and trespass.
"In addition to losing all of her possessions and being physically uprooted, Plaintiff has suffered and continues to suffer severe emotional distress and professional hardship," the filing reads.
It states that Mishele is "severely traumatized and without a place to live," struggling with insomnia, acute anxiety and depression. In addition to her home, she also lost most of her belongings when they "were completely burned and destroyed, including an entire lifetime of possessions, pictures and mementos," as well as other "basic necessities."
A representative for the estate has declined to comment on the lawsuit at this time, according to the publication.
