Anne Heche Posthumous Memoir Will Shed Light on Relationship With Ellen Degeneres

'Call Me Anne' will be released in January 2023.

Anne Heche's memoir Call Me Anne will be released posthumously following the actress' fatal car crash last month, new reports reveal.

Heche—who tragically passed away at age 53 in August—turned in the manuscript for her next memoir, a sequel to her 2001's Call Me Crazy, shortly before her untimely death, The Associated Press reports. The book is now slated for release early next year.

Start, an independent publisher based in Hoboken, New Jersey, shared an excerpt of the memoir, which is expected to cover stories involving other celebrities like Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and particularly, Ellen DeGeneres, who she dated in the late 1990s as one of Hollywood's first openly gay relationships.

"I was labeled 'outrageous' because I fell in love with a woman," the excerpt from Call Me Anne reads, per The AP. "I had never been with a woman before I dated Ellen."

Heche previously opened up about being blacklisted from Hollywood as a result of her relationship with DeGeneres from 1997 to 2000, which she claimed was the reason she was from her multi-million-dollar picture deal at the time.

"I did not work in a studio picture for 10 years," the Six Days Seven Nights star stated during her stint on Dancing With the Stars, per Us Weekly

The excerpt from her upcoming book continues, "I did not, personally, identify as a lesbian. I simply fell in love! It was, to be clear, as odd to me as anyone else. There were no words to describe how I felt."

"Gay didn't feel right and neither did straight," she continued. "Alien might be the best fit, I sometimes thought. What, why, and how I fell in love with a person instead of their gender, I would have loved to have answered if anyone had asked, but as I said earlier, no one ever did. I am happy that I was able to tell you in this book—once and for all."

According to The AP, Heche previously mentioned that her second memoir was in the works while appearing on a podcast earlier this year, where she promised that "some of the truths" about her and DeGeneres' romance would be aired.

Call Me Anne is expected to release in January 2023.
