When you've been in the spotlight as long as Anne Hathaway, you know a thing or two about making a statement on the red carpet. After all, it’s her job to waltz across them just as much as it is to grace our screens. Need proof of her red carpet domination? Look no further than her Met Gala looks, denim-meets-diamonds ensemble, alien French manicure, and spaghetti-inspired gown—all of which had fashion and beauty lovers salivating. So, naturally, her latest red carpet appearance was just as much of a slay, down to the coordinating manicure.

The day after Hathaway attended the SAG Awards on February 24—walking the red carpet alongside Selena Gomez, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Aniston, and more—the icon woke up, changed every inch of her outfit, and headed to the Film Independent Spirit Awards on the 25th. Not only did she shock us with brand-new bangs that weren’t there mere hours before, but also, with a surprisingly shiny ensemble.

Hathaway normally doesn’t dip into sequins or sparkles. Besides the chainmail Versace dress she recently wore, metallics are usually left for the accessories in her look like jewelry, bags, or accents. With that said, when she walked the red carpet in a head-to-toe sequin sleeveless Valentino jumpsuit at the Spirit Awards, our jaws dropped. Though not as much as they did when we saw the nails she matched to the shimmer.

Her go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik, created what he called a “sea foam and sequins" manicure. Each of Hathaway’s nails matched with the same short natural shape, and a gorgeous shimmering chrome finish that gave them a pearly effect. However, the most interesting part of her mani was the color: a pastel mint green. We couldn't help but be reminded of the chokehold mint green and seafoam had on millennials in the late 2000s, with Essie's Mint Candy Apple ($10) being a coveted polish shade.

In an Instagram post, Bachick shared all the details of how he got the look. After cutting, filing, buffing, and trimming Hathaway’s nails and cuticles with his Tweezerman x Tom Bachik Ultimate Nail Care Set ($60) he then went in with Mia Secret’s gel polish in the shade Sea Foam ($13).

With her nails prepped and the base color added, he created the shiny effect with Mia Secret’s Metallic Flakes ($13). Unlike chrome powder, these are more visible, bigger metallic particles that made the look more unique to the other metallic nails that are trending. The final step? A coat or two of top coat then Hathaway was ready for the red carpet.
