We’ve loved this segment so much, and we’re so happy it’s back in time for the holidays! Jimmy Fallon and Anna Kendrick used classroom instruments to play “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” but managed to make it better than ever, by having Darlene Love — the original singer of the tune — join in. With the song originally released back in 1963, Love proved that she’s still incredibly talented. Having her sing the song using such interesting tools is an opportunity that we’re glad that Fallon and the rest of the Tonight Show crew didn’t pass up.

Back in 2010, Rolling Stone named “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” as being the top rock Christmas song of all time, stating that “nobody can match Love’s emotion and sheer vocal power.” Being able to front the song along with Kendrick, Fallon, the Roots, and a variety of classroom instruments makes it even more of a powerhouse Christmas tune.

During her interview, Kendrick made sure to note how big of a moment it was for her. “Remember earlier when we sang with Darlene Love? Oh, my God! That was the best!” she said to Fallon. “I was watching backstage and I was like, I can tell that I’ve got that crazy nervous energy where I’m so excited but I’m so nervous that I just need bubble wrap to be like, ‘Ooh!'”

You can see how jazzed Kendrick is during the performance.

Love seems equally as impressed with Kendrick’s vocals, meaning that perhaps this is the start of a beautiful friendship.

It makes sense as to why Kendrick would want to sing during her performance — she’s reprising her role as Beca in Pitch Perfect 3, which will be released in theaters tomorrow, December 20th. It’s been rumored to be the last Pitch Perfect movie featuring the original cast, which means we might not get too many more opportunities to hear Kendrick’s voice. Yet, after this performance, we think she might want to consider releasing a Christmas album.
