Animal Shelter Shares the Heartbreaking Reality of How Staff Feels When Pets Are Returned

This is just so sad.

The thought of visiting an animal shelter can bring up all sorts of emotions, and it's no different for those who work at shelters every day. Even though there are so many opportunities to cuddle and play with adorable animals, there are also a lot of difficult days. One of the worst, perhaps, is when an adopted animal is brought back to the shelter.

As hard as it is to think about, the heroes who work at the Australian Animal Protection Society wanted to get real about those heartbreaking moments. We're glad they did, too, because so many TikTokers are liking and commenting in support.

Animal shelter staff are absolute angels! They go above and beyond for the fur babies they care for, but they should never blame themselves when an adoption doesn't work out. That's on the would-be-owner--not them!

"You guys are the best," agreed Colleen CK. "As difficult as your work can be you do your best and are real heroes, helping wow, so many animals. I got my Roxy from you and I'm so grateful I met her there." That's so sweet! It sounds like these earth angels take amazing care of the animals they meet, which is exactly as it should be.

@Amberanzaldua added, "Being a previous shelter worker for 5 years I felt this in my soul. Thank you guys for all that you do for these babies." Aww! We think it's so important to talk about this side of shelter work, especially when we see how many people feel seen and represented. The animals aren't the only superstars at shelters!
