For some people, their list of hobbies includes the great outdoors, drinking beer, and...not much else. If this sounds like you or someone you know, an Anheuser-Busch-owned brewery has a job title that sums all of that up perfectly: Chief Hiking Officer.

Devils Backbone Brewery is owned by the beverage giant, and is located in Virginia, right near the 842 mile marker of the Appalachian trail. The location (and the many hikers who Devils Backbone serves) is what inspired the position, according to Food & Wine.

Once chosen, the Chief Hiking Officer will get paid for hiking the Appalachian Trail through 14 states for half of 2021, starting on March 1. The Chief Hiking Officer will be provided gear, airfare to the starting point, and will have beer parties hosted by Anheuser-Busch along the way. This position also receives a $20,000 stipend.

While the job sounds like a great gig, the selection process is extensive to ensure that whoever is chosen is qualified for the challenge. A four-phase selection process starts with an application entry, which can be submitted on the Devils Backbone website.

Each application must include a written portion and a 60-second video explaining why you are passionate about the job and what wilderness or adventure experience you have. The first round of applications are being accepted through July 31.

Those who apply are required to not only be experienced in the outdoor aspect of it, but must also be familiar with social media so they can document their journey along the way. Applicants must also be 21 years of age and be residents of Washington, D.C., Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia.

After the first round of applications is received, those who move forward will be judged by a panel, given a TBD assignment, and then receive a background check and interview before a finalist is chosen. You can read all of the terms of the contest on the Devils Backbone Brewery site.
