Angelina Jolie Is Terrifying and Stunning in the 'Maleficent 2' Poster

Angelina Jolie looks enthralling in the freshly-released poster for the upcoming Maleficent sequel.

The eerie portrait has a Rembrandt-like high contrast with bright white light illuminating Jolie's silhouette in the darkness. The evil villainess looks up with her piercing green eyes, dons a pair of creepy horns on her head, and wears a killer pair of massive wings on her back. Jolie's famous pout is painted a vibrant shade of red.

Jolie first starred as Maleficent, the mystical Sleeping Beauty antagonist, in the 2014 Disney live-action film named after her character. The revisionist story showed the star as a fairy who is betrayed by a man she loves, and she seeks revenge by targeting his daughter, Aurora, played by Elle Fanning. The film was a massive success, raking in over $758 million worldwide at the box office as reported by Box Office Mojo.

On Wednesday, Disney digitally rolled out the promotional poster for the sequel on social media, which revealed the sequel's official title: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The imagery also reflected a brand new premiere date. According to Vanity Fair, the film was originally set for a May 29, 2020 release. However, the Mouse House bumped up the release date more than seven months early, to October 18, 2019, which Disney also confirmed on its verified Twitter account.

With an October release date, Jolie's dark and spooky film will arrive just in time for Halloween this year. It'll also compete at the box office with MGM’s animated version of The Addams Family and an untitled Blumhouse Horror Project, according to Movie Insider.

Back in May 2018, Elle Fanning (Dakota's younger sister and Marc Jacobs' muse) Instagrammed a behind-the-scenes shot from the set with Jolie photobombing her selfie. Even better, Michelle Pfeiffer joined the film as Queen Ingrith. The actress gave us a small glimpse into her dazzling costume with a strategically cropped selfie in January.

Although we do not know the plot of the sequel, the costumes and visuals will certainly be attention-grabbing if the original Maleficent, the new poster, and the BTS photos are any indications.
