Angelina Jolie Says Her New Book is For "Young People Fighting For Their Rights"

Angelina Jolie is celebrating the release of her new book.

The Malificent actor marked the release of her book Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth with a signing at Skylight Books in Los Angeles. She shared several pics from the event on Instagram yesterday, with a heartfelt caption explaining the book's message and praising youth activists.

In the pics, the Eternals actor signs copies of her book for children at the LA bookstore. For the event, she paired a slouchy gray sweater with a black mask. She completed the look with a dainty silver necklace and earrings.

"I’m so inspired by young people around the world who are on the front lines of the struggle for human rights. From protecting the environment to fighting inequality and discrimination, they are stepping in to do the work adults should but so far have failed to do. And in refugee camps and conflict areas globally, children are bearing the burden of the consequences of those bad decisions," she wrote.

The longtime human rights advocate also said that several youth rights activists consulted on the book, which was written in partnership with Amnesty International and human rights lawyer Geraldine Van Bueren.

She continued, "When children and young people have the agency, power and knowledge to speak up, they can change the lives of both young people and adults, helping to achieve a more equal society. That is the message of our new book, Know Your Rights and Claim them, which was written in consultation with young activists around the world - and is for them, and all the many young people fighting for their rights globally."

The star also shared some passages from the book on the day of its release, October 6. The simple guides include steps for young people to take when packing to attend a protest, and what they should do if they come in contact with pepper spray or tear gas.

"Every young person has the right to express their views, and to take part in peaceful protest. But even though it’s a human right, protest marches globally often provoke restrictive or violent responses from the state. Know Your Rights and Claim Them includes advice on how to claim your right to freedom of expression — including some of the essential steps to consider to keep yourself safe," she wrote.
