Leave it to Mugler to reveal a riotously fun runway at the tail end of Paris Fashion Week. Monday evening's show starred a slew of noteworthy muses like Connie Fleming, Paris Hilton, Amber Valletta and Angela Bassett (a newcomer to the catwalk).
Designed by Casey Cadwallader, the Spring 2024 collection is chock-full of the classic Mugler confidence and sexiness. It weaves in typical house motifs like corsetry, leather, sharp shoulders and stylistic cutouts. Still, next spring's pieces have extra pizzazz, thanks to details like breathtaking capes, heaping rows of fringe and tinsel embellishments. (Casting the aforementioned icons, of course, helped bring the drama of the garments to life.)
Regardless of its theatricality, the collection remains somewhat grounded — at least for those who likes to have a little fun and push fashion boundaries. Sheer dresses are party-ready, while shapely shirts could pass for business casual, and detailed denim jackets could easily be for the everyday. This is exactly Cadwallader's intention as he helms the house in the wake of Thierry Mugler's passing in 2022.
"What I'm trying to do," he previously told Fashionista, "is to bring those codes and make it much more wearable day to day... There's something interesting about shifting that materiality and the language that makes it hit people differently now."
