Andy's Frozen Custard to open its first Louisville location. Here's what you need to know

Louisville, here comes a new way to treat yourself.

Andy’s Frozen Custard has announced plans to open its first Louisville location.

Andy’s will bring its array of frozen custards to 11600 Shelbyville Road in Middletown. It’s expected to open by the summer.

The quick-service frozen dessert business that started in Missouri in 1986 has locations in 14 states. Brandon Arnold, who owns 12 locations of Andy’s, was determined to bring the chain to his hometown of Louisville.

“When we were looking at other markets, Kentucky was really appealing to me because I don’t get back there as much as I’d like to,” Arnold, who now lives in Columbia, Missouri, said. “This business was a good excuse.”

Arnold opened his first franchise location in 2005, after discovering Andy’s through his wife, who grew up in Missouri.

“The product itself is the most superior frozen treat I’ve ever had,” he said. “It’s so fresh and it’s smoother, smoother, creamier texture than ice cream.”

Andy’s menu features around 25 toppings, from pineapple to pretzels to cookie dough, to be added to vanilla or chocolate frozen custard.

“We try to enhance the enjoyment of the product by having buildings that are inviting and offer a fun experience,” Arnold said.

The 1,532-square-foot building on Shelbyville Road will feature a spacious covered patio, a drive-thru and walk-up window. Construction should begin by early 2024.

“It’s just another destination,” he said. “Hopefully folks will find it different and better than some of the options they have nearby. It’s just a good place to go out and have a treat with friends and family.”

Arnold has also opened two Andy’s locations in Lexington.
