Celebrity culture is in a strange place in our modern age. These days, anyone with a platform and even a small following has taken to dolling out advice to the masses on any and all topics. But who should we turn to for life advice, and what qualifications beyond fame should they carry?

The debate over who we choose to seek expertise from has, of course, raged for millennia. After all, was it not Socrates who spoke before the pantheon of Athens in 399 B.C. to attest that, rather than concern ourselves with the advice of the masses when it comes to matters of, say, maintaining a horse, we should turn instead to the advisement of those few with the specific expertise, the horse trainers, who stand to offer knowledge that can truly improve the horse, instead of the masses who stand only to damage it in their ignorance?

So, too, must we then conclude that, when it comes to taking life advice from a celebrity, we need consider what expertise they bring to the table to back up that unsolicited "wisdom." And in the case of Andy Cohen, currently making the rounds to promote a new parenting book, it's fair to say the matter in which the host might be a "horse trainer" in the Socratic sense is an answer to the age-old question, "So, let's say I got a baby gift from someone who committed, and was later convicted of, massive financial crimes. What should I do with that gift, which was likely purchased with money obtained during that fraud?"

And thankfully, Cohen himself has an answer.

As alluded earlier, Andy Cohen is currently making the rounds to promote his latest memoir, The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up, and as one might expect, several Real Housewives factor into the sordid tales of reality TV dramas and the quandaries of contemporary fatherhood.

Cohen recently relayed one such anecdote to USA Today regarding The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah. When Cohen welcomed his daughter Lucy Eve into the world in 2022, Shah generously gifted Cohen a Dior dress for the baby. But that generosity might have been aided by the fact that the money she spent ... probably wasn't hers to spend. Shah was convicted later that year on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

"On the one hand, I was touched that she thought of me with all she has going on," Heavy reports that Cohen writes in his book regarding the gift. "...but on the other, I didn’t love how much she must have spent. And like is that money coming from people she ripped off? Do I need to turn this baby Dior dress into someone? Are there elderly fraud victims who should have?"

So what did Cohen ultimately do with the dress? He says he "re-gifted" the item to "someone famous who’s a Housewives fan." Which ... doesn't really seem to us like a resolution to the "this was bought with money stolen from people" side of things, but hey, you do you, Andy Cohen. You're the expert here.
