de Armas Talks Relating To Marilyn Monroe And The Role Of A Lifetime

de Armas is up for the coveted 2023 ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ Academy award for her performance in Netflix’s 2022 film Blonde, in which she stars as Marilyn Monroe.

While sitting down with Vanity Fair, de Armas spoke about wanting to portray Monroe and how she could relate to the iconic actress. “There was a lot there that I could relate to. If you put Marilyn Monroe ‘the movie star’ aside, she’s just an actress trying to navigate life and this system, which is so hard to navigate for anybody,” de Armas said.

She added, “On top of that, you add this point of view of [director] Andrew [Dominik], which was to see that through her trauma. I truly thought it was going to do justice to a more dimensional human being, because I wouldn’t want to be remembered just for one thing. I am more than just an actress on the cover of a magazine.”
