Armas stars as Marilyn, alongside co-stars Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, and Julianne Nicholson. The screenplay for Blonde was adapted from the fictionalized 2000 bestseller novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, written to reimagine the complex and tragic life of the Hollywood starlet.

The biopic received the controversial NC-17 rating for its "sexual content" by the Motion Picture Association in March.

The film's director, Andrew Dominik (Killing Them Softly), addressed the adults-only rating in February — the first of its kind for Netflix — telling Screen Daily, "It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe; it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”

The film's rating could be partly due to a scene depicting sexual assault.

Ana told French magazine L'Officiel that she doesn't believe it's fair to give the film the NC-17 rating — saying, “I didn’t understand why that happened."

“I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde. But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained."

"Everyone [in the cast] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one," Ana added.

With so much conversation surrounding the film's rating, there's no telling how heated people will be over the entirety of the Some Like It Hot actor's portrayal.

Ana spoke enthusiastically about her portrayal of Marilyn, telling L'Officiel, “I am proud to have Andrew’s trust and the chance to pull it off. I feel like whether you’re a Cuban or an American actress, anyone should feel the pressure. My job wasn’t to imitate her. I was interested in her feelings, her journey, her insecurities, and her voice, in the sense that she didn’t really have one.”
