Amy Schumer’s Empowering #girlyoudontneedmakeup Twitter Hashtag & Video

“You are so beautiful you don’t need makeup.” It’s such a line, but what woman doesn’t love to hear it. But is it really true? Amy Schumer wants women to go with it.  She posted a #girlyoudontneedmakeup hashtag late Tuesday night urging fans to post their no makeup selfies on Twitter and it’s quickly gone viral.

The hashtag is tied to her hilarious new music video where Schumer answers a boy band’s harmonized plea to take her makeup off, “’cause you don’t need no lipstick, you don’t need no blush, ‘cause you’ve got that natural glow.” The chorus is a resounding “take it off!” Except, when she does, the guys look horrified and spend the rest of the video begging for her to put more and more makeup on. They quickly start begging for her to “Just put it on!”  The final chorus is “you need makeup, lots and lots of makeup.” It’s hilarious, and every woman’s worst nightmare.

The Twitter movement is a hit with fans, women are proudly and eagerly posting their makeup-free selfies, and some real guys (not boy banders) are, too. Here is Schumer’s call to action and a few of our favorite responses:

Leave it to Schumer to turn a self-deprecating joke into an empowerment movement. After all the photos flooded in Schumer posted on Twitter “ I have been brought to tears with all the strong, badass, incredible women tonight. In jungles, jumping out of planes, holding their babies and mothers hands. All the strong lovely men who tweeted too. We are all different and beautiful. Let’s waste no time stressin ‘bout looks.”
