Amy Klobuchar's Daughter Abigail Looks So Much Like the Presidential Hopeful
Abigail Klobuchar Bessler is Minnesota Senator (and 2020 Presidential hopeful) Amy Klobuchar's daughter.
She's a huge fan of her mom, as well as an employee at the New York City Council.
The children of politicians can often be as notable as their parents. Do Chelsea Clinton, Malia and Sasha Obama, and Meghan McCain ring a bell? And one rising star is 24-year-old Abigail Klobuchar Bessler, the daughter of Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar and husband John Bessler, a lawyer and professor. As an employee of the New York City Council, it's clear she's following her mom's political path. As Klobuchar gears up for the second round of Democratic debates on July 30 and 31 in Detroit, here's what we know about her standout daughter.
Abigail Bessler inspired her mom's career in politics.
Klobuchar has been very open about the incident that motivated her to run for office. In an interview with Elle, she explained that Abigail was born with the inability to swallow and had to be fed through a tube into her stomach for the first three years of her life. Unfortunately, Klobuchar was kicked out of the hospital 24 hours after giving birth, and trauma from that event inspired her to go from being a corporate attorney to someone who lobbied the Minnesota state legislature to ensure new mothers and their babies could stay at the hospital for 48 hours. The law was so effective, then-President Bill Clinton made it a federal law.
Bessler shares an alma mater with her mother.
Like her mother, she attended Yale University, where she wrote for the Yale Daily News, and worked on the Undergraduate Admissions podcast before graduating in 2017. Klobuchar took to Instagram to celebrate her accomplishment:

Bessler now works at the New York City Council as the legislative director for Councilman Keith Powers of Manhattan’s East Side, according to the New York Times. And, according to Vogue, she's also a standup comedian.
She's a massive supporter of her mother.
Bessler has been seen at plenty of events supporting her mom's presidential campaign, and she makes frequent appearances on Klobuchar's social media.

It was great to have John and Abigail here today as I was sworn-in. Abigail is even wearing one of my dresses from when I started as a lawyer (she, in her own words, calls it 'vintage'). Thank you, Minnesota, for allowing me to represent you in the Senate. Now let’s get to work! pic.twitter.com/hllBXwkPr9

In an interview with CBS Minnesota, Bessler said she was "really proud" of her mother and her presidential campaign: "I’m excited for, like I said, what she’s campaigning on and the issues she cares about...I’m ready to spread that, and help her in any way I can."
