Amy Grant recently opened up about how her 2022 bicycle accident was quickly followed by the discovery of a cyst in her throat.

In an interview with E! News this week, the artist explained that the trauma from the accident caused an existing thyroglossal duct cyst in her throat to become a "hypergrowth" that required surgery.

On July 27, Grant was thrown from her bike after hitting a pothole in Nashville. According to her publicist, Velvet Kelm, the "Baby, Baby" singer hit her head so hard that she was knocked unconscious for about 10 minutes. The injury caused memory loss and balance issues she struggles with to this day.

"I still have issues with my short term memory. My balance is still weird," Grant told E! News. "I made a joke about it last night. You know, sometimes I walk around like I'm drunk and I just have to laugh about all of it. I can't remember what I can't remember.”

But a head injury wasn’t the only thing the six-time Grammy winner had to contend with.

"Unbeknownst to me, I actually had this cyst growing in my throat,” Grant said. "I had this five-hour surgery and they took it out. So I actually had to learn to sing again.”

She recalled waking up after the January 2023 surgery and feeling like her "neck was a little tighter."

"I just felt like an old, beat-up car that went in and got a paint job and had the dents knocked out," Grant laughed. "That's a gift."

Back to performing and feeling “fantastic,” the singer, who also underwent open-heart surgery in 2020, has a lot to be thankful for.

"I mean, really from 2020 on, I feel like I had to… if I were a car, I've made a lotta trips to the shop,” she said during a March 2023 interview with Today's Craig Melvin. “And I feel like I'm emerging. I went, 'Oh man, I feel like a classic now.' And actually sort of re-revved up in a really beautiful way."
