Amtrak’s Limited-Time Spring Sale Offering One-Way Fares as Low as $6 Across the U.S.

Amtrak is offering one-way tickets for as low as $6 on certain routes for a limited time this spring, The Points Guy reported. The sale applies to tickets for travel from March 1 through May 23 of this year, but you must complete your purchase by February 23 to lock in the deal.

There are a variety of different options for travelers of all stripes. Amtrak is offering reduced fares on Acela business-class tickets throughout the Northeast Corridor from hubs such as Baltimore, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Rhode Island.

Discounted coach fares are also available out of Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, and Washington D.C. You can take the short hop from Boston’s South Station to Providence, RI for $6 in coach or $31 in business class; or from South Station to NYC’s Penn Station for $25 in coach or $48 in business.

If you’re up for some fare sleuthing, The Points Guy found multiple instances of itineraries being cheaper than the advertised sale. For example, they found a round-trip coach itinerary from Boston to NYC for just $32, and another round trip from Chicago to St. Louis for $40. This does take a bit of searching, though, as prices fluctuate on most itineraries.

Amtrak’s sale is a terrific way to save some money over spring break and avoid congested airports, but there are a few important things to remember before you book your travel. Amtrak stresses their seating is limited and doesn’t guarantee seating will be available on all trains at all times. Fares cannot be modified, and if you choose to cancel your trip for any reason, Amtrak charges a 50 percent cancellation fee against the price of the ticket.

Book your itineraries through Amtrak's website or via the Amtrak app before February 23 to lock in some tremendous bargains.
