  • American Idol judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie recently appeared on E! News's Daily Pop.

  • Katy joked that she misses sitting closer to Lionel amid social-distancing guidelines but hinted that she doesn't mind staying away from Luke.

  • American Idol season 4 premieres on February 14 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

American Idol is officially back, and it seems like being six feet apart isn’t enough distance for judges Luke Bryan and Katy Perry.

In a recent interview with the E! News daytime show Daily Pop, the ABC competition show's panelists were asked if they missed being "nice and close with each other" during the audition process. While Lionel Richie made it clear that he's elated to be back on set with Luke and Katy, his fellow Idol judges were, well, a little less enthusiastic.

"I don’t mind it so much," Katy said about sitting farther apart to follow social-distancing guidelines. "I mean, I miss Lionel ... But Luke, you know, I'm no longer—"

Hilariously, the country star, who is seen earlier in the above clip using an extended grabber tool to pick at Katy's hat, then jumped in to refute whatever the "Fireworks" singer was about to say next. “Hey, you’re the one who didn’t put deodorant on today!” Luke clapped back.

“Well, I’m a mom. I forget things now,” Katy explained, referencing that she and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, welcomed a little girl named Daisy Dove last August. “And also, I’m too busy. But now I don’t get flicked by [Luke’s] boogers anymore.”

That was all it took for the Idol judges to break into laughter. Of course, it's clear that Luke and Katy's banter is all in the name of a little fun, kind of like how Adam Levine and Blake Shelton used to joke around on The Voice all the time. We're sure deep down they're just as pumped as Lionel is to be judging the reality competition show with each other once again. That said, we cannot wait to see what other hilarious things they say when season 4 kicks off on Valentine's Day.
