American Idol is coming back for a fourth season on ABC, marking the show's 19th season overall.

The long-running singing competition series will once again grace our screens next spring to crown another stellar vocalist. Last year, it was Just Sam who won over the hearts of America – who knows what incredibly talented singer the show will discover next.

When does the new season of American Idol start?

While we definitely know American Idol is eventually coming back, we don't exactly know when that will be just yet. If we had to guess though, expect the new season of American Idol to premiere sometime between mid-February and early March, which is when ABC has started airing past seasons. Then again, with all the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, it's possible the network may have to shift its spring TV schedule. Long story short, we will update this post once the network announces the set start date.

Who will be the judges and host on American Idol season 4?

The judging trio you've come to know and love — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie — will be reuniting once again for the next installment of the singing competition show. Although there was some doubt about all of the judges returning last season, ABC proudly announced this past August that all three music stars would be coming back. Also returning is Ryan Seacrest, who has hosted Idol since its premiere on Fox back in 2002.

"There is no one who we feel more confident about leading us into a new season of high notes than Luke, Katy, Lionel and the incomparable Ryan Seacrest," Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement.

What's more, Bobby Bones will also resume his mentor duties once the show returns. The country music radio host recently got engaged to his girlfriend, Caitlin Parker. Maybe she'll even make an appearance on the show!

When are the auditions for the 2021 season?

Because of the pandemic, American Idol has been conducting live virtual auditions for season 4 via its Idol Across America program. Auditions started on August 10 and will continue until October 28.
