Noah Thompson captured hearts as the American Idol 2022 winner and fans are ready to hear more music from him. And we get it — he's a small-town guy who made it to the big stage, just won a major network singing competition and he already has the hit single "One Day Tonight" under his belt. What else does Noah have in store for his dedicated followers?

In a surprise twist, the 20-year-old country music star is doing something unexpected for an American Idol winner: He's about to embark on a little break before getting into the music studio.

In a recent interview with the Herald Dispatch, Noah shared how he's planning on spending his time now that the show has wrapped up. What does that entail? Aside from an ABC-gifted Disney cruise with girlfriend Angel Dixon and one-year-old son Walker, it sounds like he'll be enjoying life back home in Kentucky surrounded by his loved ones.

"I'm looking forward to getting out and playing shows and meeting people and writing songs — that's what I'm working on right now," Noah said. "I'm not saying I'm a good songwriter or anything, but you got to start somewhere."

Aside from taking a little vacation, Noah also stopped by paid a visit to his fellow construction coworkers and even mowed his own lawn. How much more down-to-earth can get actually get?

But just because he's getting a little R&R post-American Idol, it doesn't mean he's abandoning his music career completely. Instead, he's focusing on perfecting his songwriting and creating original music on his own terms.

"I'm not trying to be a pop-country artist ... That's not me," Noah told the outlet. "That's why I didn't wear certain clothes. I still wear my boots, my blue jeans and my flannel — that's just me. I want to be a soulful, rock-country-type deal."

So how are fans taking Noah's little respite from music? Unsurprisingly, fans are as supportive as ever. "We have needed some old country. Can’t wait to see what he releases!" one person wrote on YouTube. "Bring it on Noah you will find the right path for you! We will be happy with what ever you do!" another added. "Noah will do fine! He is talented, and a great personality combined with that will take him a very long way! Best wishes to all!" a different fan said.

Take all the time you need, Noah —your fans will be waiting for you.
