When Nicolina Bozzo first stepped in front of the American Idol judges, she gave Katy Perry goosebumps and Lionel Richie declared that she was what “they had been looking for.”
Still, the 18-year-old singer from Toronto wasn’t given the highest honor American Idol fans believe she deserved.

On Monday night’s episode, viewers watched as the ABC singing competition show's fifth season (overall 20th season) moved on to the next round with its Hollywood Week genre challenge. Among the aspiring artists competing for a spot in the top 24 was Nicolina, who sang an emotional rendition of Billie Eilish’s "Everything I Wanted."
“I remember her!” Katy said. “The talent is so fierce. There’s no fluff,” Lionel added.
Seeing Nicolina shine on stage again, many fans wondered why the judges didn't award the artist a platinum ticket in the audition round. A platinum ticket, as viewers know, is a new benefit American Idol introduced this season to give three singers the chance to bypass the first round of Hollywood Week.
“She should have gotten a platinum ticket,” one person wrote on YouTube. “Totally agree!” a different fan replied. “That's exactly what I was thinking!” another added.
That said, others shared that they believe she will be in the top 24 no matter what. “She doesn't need it, and selfishly we get to hear more of her lol,” a follower commented. “FACT!!!!” someone else quipped.
For her first American Idol audition, Nicolina performed Sara Bareilles’ “She Used To Be Mine.” Afterward, the Idol judges gave her a standing ovation. “I felt your own life story in that one,” Katy said. “That was just ridiculous ... I’m a fan of yours,” Lionel added. “You’re amazing. You navigate everything wonderfully … You go into a place in your mind right before you sing and that’s what big time singers do,” Luke Bryan shared.
So will Nicolina advance to the next round? We’ll have to tune in next week to find out.
