'It was hurtful.'

American Idol contestant Sarah Beth is speaking out after the show aired an uncomfortable moment involving judge Katy Perry during her audition.

The 25-year-old California native's episode aired earlier in March, but her encounter with the popular judge is still causing a stir. So what exactly went down?

Initially, the banter between herself and the panel of judges seemed rather jovial, with the group shocked by her age. The young hopeful joked, "If Katy lays on the table I think I'm going to pass out," after the "Teenage Dream" singer, 38, jumped out of her chair upon learning that she has three young children.

"Honey, you've been laying on the table too much," Perry said in response to the news. Sarah Beth didn't seem to have a response at the time, but after the episode aired, she took to TikTok to address the controversial comment.

The singer sat on her couch as she addressed the moment, sharing that she hadn't planned to speak out but changed her mind after being "flooded with articles and comments/messages about" the situation.

"While I was on the show, there was a joke that was made that's gotten some attention, and I've gotten a lot of people reaching out to me asking how I'm feeling," she said, going on to share that she had been scouted to audition before giving a breakdown of the controversy.

"Katy Perry made a joke that wasn't super kind," she said, laughing nervously, "and that's what this all about."

She then said she didn't have much to say about the incident, noting that she felt her reaction was "probably pretty self-explanatory."

She continued, "It was embarrassing to have that on TV, and it was hurtful and that's that...I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom shaming is super lame and I think that it's hard enough to be a mom and it's hard enough to be a woman."

She also expressed her gratitude for the mothers that have spoken out against the comment and assured those that have been on the receiving end of similar inappropriate judgments that she is on their side, too.

"Keep loving your babies. Nobody deserves to feel crappy about that," she said.

Perry is a mother herself, sharing 2-year-old Daisy with Orlando Bloom and step-parenting his 12-year-old son, Flynn, whom he shares with ex Miranda Kerr.

But viewers were impressed with Sarah Beth's "humble soul" and perseverance, noting that "she sang her pure heart out" despite the alleged animosity being thrown her way.

The singer later returned to TikTok to reveal that she had lost her voice the morning of her audition, addressing comments accusing her of screaming and proving her chops with a new rendition of "Benny and the Jets."

While Sarah Beth received a "yes" from two out of three judges, it's unclear if her time on the singing competition has already come to an end.

When she addressed the audition on TikTok, her choice of words could lead one to believe that she wouldn't be returning to compete. She also admitted that she wasn't sure if winning this season was her dream, which led to uncertainty for both herself and the judges.

As auditions are still airing, we won't get any formal confirmation as to her status on the series until Hollywood Week, which takes place in April.
